Manufacturer certifications are not participation awards. To earn GAF Master Elite status, a contractor must be licensed, insured, in good standing with the BBB, and demonstrate a track record of verified GAF installations. GAF says only 2% of roofers in North America earn it. The same rigor applies to CertainTeed's Select ShingleMaster tier.
For homeowners, the practical result is warranty access. Contractors without the right certification cannot offer the top-tier extended warranties. A GAF Master Elite contractor can offer the Golden Pledge warranty — a lifetime system warranty with 25-year leak-free workmanship coverage — that a non-certified roofer simply cannot offer.
Holding five certifications across three major manufacturers (GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning) means NuShake can match the right material and warranty to your specific project — without steering you toward one brand because that's the only one we're certified to install.

The primary benefit for homeowners: access to the SureStart Plus warranty, CertainTeed's premium extended warranty covering materials and workmanship. A Select ShingleMaster contractor can register your system for SureStart Plus, which is transferable if you sell the home — a documented selling point in Bay Area real estate transactions.
CertainTeed products are common in Tri-Valley HOA communities (Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore) where color and profile consistency across a development is required. The Select ShingleMaster certification confirms installation to CertainTeed's standards.

GAF Master Elite is the highest designation GAF awards to roofing contractors — and GAF says only 2% of roofers in North America earn it. To earn it, a contractor must be properly licensed and insured, maintain a good standing record, and demonstrate commitment to ongoing training. GAF re-evaluates status annually.
The top-tier warranty unlocked by Master Elite status is the GAF Golden Pledge: a lifetime limited warranty on the GAF roofing system, backed by 25-year non-prorated coverage on workmanship. The Golden Pledge is one of the strongest roofing warranties available from any manufacturer in the country.
For homeowners replacing an older roof — especially in Sacramento and Elk Grove where 1980s–1990s housing stock is common — the Golden Pledge represents a meaningful long-term protection on a significant investment. Every roof is priced after a free on-site estimate and given as a written quote; your cost depends on size, pitch, material, and access.

GAF Solar Certified
Combined roofing + solar credential
GAF Solar Certified is a separate certification from GAF Master Elite, earned through GAF's solar installation training program. Holding both requires demonstrated competency in roofing and in the installation of solar panel systems on GAF substrates.
For Bay Area homeowners navigating California's NEM 3.0 net metering rules, planning the roof around the solar matters. The Solar certification lets NuShake install GAF Energy Timberline Solar shingles as part of the roof. Panel wiring and the utility hookup are electrical work under a C-46 or C-10 license.

Owens Corning Preferred Contractor
Broad coverage — third major manufacturer
Owens Corning Preferred status is earned through licensing verification, insurance compliance, and demonstrated installation volume. OC Preferred contractors are factory-vetted installers who can register qualifying Owens Corning roofing system warranties for homeowners.
Holding an OC certification alongside GAF and CertainTeed certifications means NuShake is not locked into a single manufacturer. If a homeowner has an existing OC system and wants a matching material, or if OC's pricing is better for a specific job, we can install and warranty it properly.

A valid CSLB C-39 license is the legal minimum required to perform roofing work above California's minor-works contract threshold. It requires passing a trade knowledge exam and a law exam, carrying workers' compensation and general liability insurance, and maintaining a bond.
