What the forecast says, and what it doesn't.
NOAA's Climate Prediction Center says El Niño is strengthening and gives it a greater than 90% chance of becoming a very strong event this fall and winter. For October through December, CPC puts the odds at 75% that it will be stronger than any El Niño on record back to 1950 (CPC ENSO discussion, September 2026). A strong El Niño raises the odds of a wet California winter. It doesn't guarantee one. The 2015–16 event was about as strong as 1997–98, and much of California still ended that winter with below-normal rain. We're not promising a storm. A roof that leaks in a normal winter leaks more in a wet one, and a repair is easier to schedule before the first big storm than after it.
The details.

- Free estimate. We look at the roof and give you a written quote for the repair before any work starts. You decide.
- We do the repair.
- Replace within 12 months, if you need to. If you replace the roof with NuShake within 12 months of the repair, the amount you paid for the repair is credited toward the replacement, up to $500.
Two examples: a $300 repair becomes a $300 credit. A $900 repair becomes a $500 credit, because $500 is the cap. If the repair is paid through an insurance claim, the credit equals your deductible, up to $500.
One credit per property, and it stays with the house: if you sell within the 12 months, the new owner can use it. The credit has no cash value, only applies toward a NuShake roof replacement, and can't be combined with financing.
Any roof repair. Common examples:
- Tracing and fixing a leak
- Flashing at chimneys, walls, skylights, and valleys (the channels where two roof slopes meet)
- Pipe boots and roof vents
- Missing, cracked, or wind-lifted shingles and ridge caps
- Broken tiles, or underlayment repair on one section of a tile roof
- Emergency tarping during a storm
- Roof coating
There's no minimum. A $150 tarp earns a $150 credit. Gutter work doesn't count, because it isn't work on the roof itself. The estimate doesn't count either; it's free anyway.
Roof age. Valley heat is hard on asphalt shingles. As a rough guide: if your shingle roof is under about 15 years old and the problem is in one spot, repair it. If it's past 20 and you're seeing curled shingles, bare patches where the granules have washed off, or more than one leak, ask for a replacement price at the same visit. The credit means the repair you need now isn't wasted.
Tile or shingle. Tile usually outlasts what's under it. On a tile roof that's 20 to 30 years old, a leak usually means the underlayment (the waterproof layer under the tile) is worn out, not the tile. Sometimes a section repair holds. When the underlayment is done across the whole roof, we can pull your existing tile, put down new underlayment, and reset the same tile. See our tile roofing page.
Active leaks. Fix them now. Water in the attic soaks insulation and rots the roof deck, and a small repair becomes a big one. Don't hold a leak while you decide about replacement. That's the gap this credit covers.

A roof put on when a house was built in 1995 is 31 years old this winter. One from 2005 is 21. If your home was built in those years and the roof has never been replaced, you likely still have the original builder roof. At that age, builder-grade shingles and the felt underlayment under tile roofs can be near the end of their life.
Age alone doesn't decide it. Plenty of 25-year-old roofs have years left, and some 15-year-old roofs don't. A free estimate tells you which one you have.
